Bellevue, WA, August 2009 – TransManage, a program of the Bellevue Downtown Association, recently highlighted Washburn Communication’s pioneering efforts in offering commute benefit options to employees. The case study, featured on the Choose Your Way Bellevue Web site, illustrates how small companies in downtown Bellevue can offer environmentally sound, cost-effective commuting options to their employees.

For more than five years, Washburn has offered employees a fully subsidized FlexPass membership, which covers travel on regional bus, light rail, and train systems—passes that can be used during nonwork hours as well. The company also covers the full cost of the use of the Zipcar service for local business travel and provides informal telecommute options.

“Our program provides employees with a great cost savings, compared with driving their own cars,” says Dixie Crockford, Vice President of Washburn Communication. “And, as a company, this program is more affordable than providing full-time parking for each employee. It’s a win-win and a great way to minimize our impact on the environment at the same time.”
